El astrónomo y fotógrafo Juan Carlos Casado ha formado parte de una expedición del instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), liderada por el astrónomo Miquel Serra, que se desplazó la última semana de agosto a las regiones polares para observar de cerca el fenómeno, fotografiarlo y retransmitir imágenes en directo a través de internet y la red de telescopios robóticos integrada en este proyecto de ciencia ciudadana.
